Learner of the Year Award goes to Marcio Paixo

Thursday, 24th of October, 7pm: Nervous nominees, a sophisticated location and an atmosphere tense with excitement – this was the scene at yesterday´s Apprenticeship Awards Cymru ceremony, hosted by the National Training Federation Wales at the new International Convention Centre Wales.

An hour later the winner is announced: Marcio Paixo is trainee of the year! Out of 34 finalists across various categories Marcio took the prestigious award home, which is a recognition for his development and personal growth in the past.

Marcio joined our team a year ago – under the wing of our manager Andreas Lazarou, he quickly excelled at barbering and keeps improving constantly. His continuous progression, personal drive and positive attitude make him to a valuable asset to our team in Merthyr Tydfil.

Considering his young age of 18 and his past experience, his development is even more impressive: Marcio was born in Portugal, at the age of 11 he moved to Merthyr to live with his aunt. Faced to bullying at school, he still managed to excel in his academic career, he achieved eight A-C GCSEs. Marcio´s excellence continues at Lazarou, where he is enrolled on a Foundation Apprenticeship while pursuing a modelling career in his time off.
